Discover the Wildlife Wonders of Numie

At Numie, nestled in the heart of Tasmania's stunning Freycinet Peninsula, we are privileged to share our home with a diverse array of native wildlife. Our 91-acre property is a sanctuary for many of Tasmania's unique and enchanting creatures, offering guests an unforgettable opportunity to connect with nature.

Meet our Native Wonders

Wombats

These adorable, stocky marsupials are a common sight around Numie. With their distinctive waddle and curious nature, wombats are a delight to observe as they forage for food or enjoy a leisurely stroll across the landscape. Tip: Wombats are most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Take a quiet walk along our trails during these times for the best chance to see them.

Sugar Gliders

As dusk falls, keep an eye out for the sugar gliders as they take to the skies. These nocturnal creatures are known for their remarkable gliding abilities, using the flaps of skin between their limbs to soar gracefully from tree to tree. Tip: Bring a flashlight for a night walk and look up into the trees to spot these agile gliders.

Possums

Our bushland is home to several species of possums, including the common brushtail and ringtail possums. These nocturnal animals are often spotted in the evenings, making their way through the trees or foraging for food. Tip: Possums are quite curious and may come close if you sit quietly on your accommodation’s porch in the evening.

Wallabies

Graceful and gentle, wallabies are frequent visitors to our property. These smaller relatives of kangaroos can often be seen grazing in the early morning or late afternoon, providing a quintessential Australian wildlife experience. Tip: Early risers are rewarded with the sight of wallabies grazing in open areas. Keep your distance and observe quietly for the best experience.

A Birdwatcher’s Paradise

Numie is also a haven for bird enthusiasts. The threatened black gum woodland and surrounding areas attract a variety of bird species, each adding their song to the symphony of nature that envelops our guests. Tip: Bring binoculars and a bird guidebook to enhance your birdwatching experience. The early morning is the best time for birdwatching.
